1. Name the purpose
Choose casual chat, romantic roleplay, creative storytelling, brainstorming, or conversation practice.
AI companion chat combines generated conversation with a selected character style and scenario. Specific prompts make the experience more useful, but answers can still be wrong, inconsistent, or inappropriate for important decisions.

How it works: You provide a message plus character and scenario context. The system generates a likely response based on that input. “Personality” guides style; it is not a real identity. “Memory,” when available, may store selected facts, but it should never be assumed to be perfect or private without documentation.
Choose casual chat, romantic roleplay, creative storytelling, brainstorming, or conversation practice.
State the topic, tone, boundaries, and the role you want the character to play.
For example: ask one question at a time, keep replies concise, or challenge my assumptions politely.
Restate context when it drifts and verify consequential facts using reliable sources.
These are examples of user instructions, not transcripts from real customers.
“Be a calm fictional companion. Ask me one open question about my day, then summarize what I say without diagnosing me.”
“We are characters meeting at a quiet bookshop. Keep the scene playful, respect the listed boundaries, and stay within fiction.”
“Help me develop a mystery protagonist. Ask about motive, conflict, and setting before suggesting plot twists.”
“Simulate a casual introduction at a hobby group. Keep replies short and explain one alternative response after each turn.”
Recent context can help a system follow the current exchange. Saved memory may store selected facts across sessions. A trustworthy product should distinguish them, show what is retained, allow corrections, and explain deletion and backups.
Dream Companion does not currently publish a live memory feature claim because the product controls have not been connected and verified.
Entertainment, fictional roleplay, writing prompts, brainstorming, and low-stakes conversation practice.
Factual claims, recommendations, interpretation of other people's motives, and anything that affects health, money, law, or safety.
Emergency help, therapy, professional advice, informed consent, or reciprocal human relationships.
| Question | Why it matters | What a service should explain |
|---|---|---|
| Who can access content? | Intimate chats may be highly sensitive. | Staff, vendors, moderators, and access conditions. |
| Is content used for training? | Training may extend use beyond the immediate chat. | Default setting, opt-out, provider involvement, and scope. |
| How long is data kept? | Deletion from the interface may not equal backup deletion. | Active retention, backups, legal holds, and closure timeline. |
| Can I edit or delete memory? | Incorrect or sensitive saved facts can persist. | Visible controls, correction, export, and deletion method. |

It is an ongoing conversation with a software character whose tone, background, or role can be configured. Responses are generated and can be inaccurate.
No service should be assumed to remember everything. Recent context and saved memory are different, and exact controls should be documented.
Do not assume it is. Verify staff, vendor, training, retention, and deletion practices before sharing sensitive information.
The planned experience includes romantic fictional character directions. See the AI girlfriend and AI boyfriend pages for intent-specific examples.
